Here’s the situation —

At Underwood Letterpress, our main source of income was affected by the postponing of events in 2020. I was tasked with revamping our vintage stamp sets in hopes to drum up retail sales while we waited for events to come back.

Role: Sourcing, Packaging Design, Art Direction

Discovery

Launched in 2016, our existing vintage stamp sets were sold by color. The packaging and photography were geared toward a crafty DIYer who sends snail mail and prunes their Pinterest boards to perfection.

In 2020, we felt our customer had evolved into someone more sentimental and chic, a color lover who still loves to plan their own party, but will go the extra step for a high-touch, unforgettable moment.

Sourcing

Even after USPS finishes producing and selling a certain stamp, it does not expire until they are “canceled” by the post office. That’s what those wavy lines mean. I was tasked with sourcing stamps that have been floating around, waiting for their big moment for as far back as the 1950’s.

Working with our Stamp Guy, I navigated the current vintage stamp market to find 4-5 different sets of stamps for our new collections: Love, Color Happy, Nautical, Tomboy, Botanical, Nature, and Yuletide. It was a big, big order.

Fonts

We switched from Mensch, an industrial, no frills sans-serif typeface to custom calligraphy by Anne Robin paired with Neutra Text.
